May The Fourth Be With You
8 wild teams appeared this month, with 7 of them conspiring to beat The Woodmen in May’s trivia night, fighting valiantly through the many Star Wars themed questions to become top dog at the Wilde Rover! Our Player’s Choice round, “Video Game Weapons” was worth double points (one for guessing the game, another for knowing the name of the weapon), with Top Sheets, Happy Birthday Stef!! and SUTT2.5HDRTE (yes that’s their acronym!) netting 15 points from a single round! Top Sheets and Yandere-Chan’s Playhouse Also knocked out a perfect score in the Halftime round, correctly naming 10 Star Wars games released for Nintendo Home consoles!
The Half-Time Bonus round had some awesome swag, with Stef celebrating her birthday by scoring Jeff Rovin’s [amazon text=How To Win At Nintendo Games&asin=0312920180], clearly the most coveted of prizes (other than free beer) tonight!
Halftime was the last time anyone would see a perfect round, with both the audio and video rounds stumping everyone! The Woodmen was the only team to get 7 out of 8 points guessing the Narrator in our audio round, while the video round separated the Robot haters from the Android lovers. The Star Bees Held tight to their spot even through the tough later rounds to beat out several teams!
The dangerous Final Round ground everyone up, with the top score being a mere 6 out of 21 points! The Woodmen and Top Sheets were neck and neck going into round 6 with 54 and 53 points respectively. Most everyone got the first question (The Last Guardian), and half of the teams got StarFox 2. Even though the Matsushita M2 has been a question at previous Question Block games, only ONE team took a stab at it, earning a crucial 4 more points (I’ll let you guess who). Two teams took a stab at question 4, and both of them (Happy Birthday Stef!! and Sophiroth) got Star Wars 1313 correct! NOBODY knew the answer to the ultra-valuable 5-point question, Sega VR! Everyone played the final round conservatively; not a single team lost points from guessing incorrectly, but your humble host talked to several teams afterward who knew Sega VR was the answer, but were too afraid to guess!
After a surprise TIE between Team Ball Blam Burglebers (Try saying that after a couple beers!) and Team Sophiroth, each team sent a representative to the front for a tie breaker round! Each team was asked to name playable characters in Mario Kart 8 for the honor of choosing a round for the next trivia night. Team Sophiroth (pronounced “Sophie-Roth”) emerged victorious, so our June game will feature a round of “Old School Point ‘N Click Adventures!“
