Arcade Armageddon Chiptunes Concert and Retro Competition
July 13, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 1:00 am
$15Electrowookie Records and Seattle Retro Gaming Expo (SRGE) are teaming up to present the 2nd annual “Arcade Armageddon,” a night of video game music and on-stage video game competition. Inspired by the tournament at the end of the 1989 Nintendo-themed movie The Wizard, this event seeks to appeal to video game fans young and old, casual and hardcore. Seven games have been selected from the past 20 years of gaming history to provide for an intense tournament final on-stage in front of cheering fans.
The afternoon portion of the event will be held inside the SRGE expo hall, located upstairs from Vera Project. Potential competitors can try their luck by competing for high scores in the Nintendo Entertainment System games Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and Rad Racer. Players will be able to try once per hour to achieve a high score at the Arcade Armageddon booth on the Nintendo World Championship cartridge. As the expo winds down for the day, the 20 top scorers will be selected to compete in the final rounds.
The main event begins at 7pm and will alternate between rounds of on-stage competition and musical performances. Each round will reduce the number of players until only two remain to compete for the grand prize. The games for the finals will be Saturn Bomberman, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Street Fighter II, and a secret final round to be revealed the night of the event. Hosts Jon Pio, Holland Hume, and Esther Bentson will provide lively commentary for the competitions.
