Golfaria Overview
Golfaria is an action-adventure RPG with a unique system of movement and story. The player awakens in a cave directly under Putterton, and must use their limited number of shots to explore the world, gain new abilities, help other balls, learn about the creator of Parbots, and find the mysterious holy tee.
Basics of Movement
The player starts with 20 strokes out of a max of 20. Every time the player moves, the stroke count reduces by 1. This includes leaping out of divots or pitching (jumping) out of sand. It does NOT include leaving holes. There are no stroke penalties for falling into water or a hole, but the player’s position resets to where they were before the took the shot. Some enemies can also reduce the player’s shot count. The game ends when the player runs out of strokes; the player will return to their last touched Checkpoint Flag.
The player can add strokes back to their stroke count in several ways:
- Knock an insect into the water or a hole
- Roll into a Birdie
- Pick up an ability or item
- Find a Safe Zone in the underworld (your starting hole is a Safe Zone)
- Safe Zones also have Checkpoint Flags!
NOTE: Finding a Safe Zone, picking up an ability, or collecting an item will refill your stroke count to the max!
The player can also add to their max stroke count by acquiring Golf Clubs in the underworld.
Abilities
There are 4 abilities that can be acquired by exploring Golfaria’s underworld (Spoiler):
- Ball Brakes
- Sand Roll
- Block Buster
- Water Roll
Items and Assistants
- Birdie: Adds strokes to your current stroke count
- Eagle: Adds strokes to your current stroke count
- ParBot: Mysterious mechanical birds that will escape with a report on your progress if not destroyed in 5 strokes
- Golf Club: Adds to your max stroke count
Potential Spoiler Items
- Ghost Balls: They will aid you when the time comes…
- Holy Tee Piece: What happens if you collect them all…?
Tips and Tricks
- TOO LITTLE POWER IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN TOO MUCH POWER
- Full-power shorts are almost NEVER a good idea, ESPECIALLY in the Underworld!
- Don’t worry about perfect timing when making shots! Just focus on these 4 types of shots, two of which require almost no skill to perform:
- Alignment shot: the fastest tap of the button
- Use this to line up for precision shots
- Light shot: hold the button for just a fraction of a second longer
- Very useful in the Underworld for getting around obstacles
- Half shot: perfect for getting up small slopes
- Small slopes are about the the same height/width as your ball
- Full shot: as it says
- With few exceptions, any shot more powerful than a half-shot is going to get you the same result
- Alignment shot: the fastest tap of the button
- To get consistent with your shot power, try counting to 2 such that right when you finish saying “two,” the meter is at full power. This way you can better gauge half-power shots by releasing the button righter after saying “one.”
- Anything after “one” is basically a full-power shot, and only really needed in very specific situations
- Any time you get a permanent improvement (max stroke count, ability, etc.), you can pause and reset the game to immediately return to your last checkpoint and keep your reward
- This is usually the best option, but check the area around you in case your new ability grants you access to something cool!
- Find the abilities first; they can make movement easier and open up new areas
- Start by exploring the 4 corners of the world
- Other balls will give you a hint when you are near “something good”
- Each part of the overworld has its own challenges. If you find one area frustrating, try exploring a different area
- Use Checkpoint Flags as a homebase to explore the region around them
- The Overworld and Underworld maps sync up; holes will be in the same place on both maps
- Your increased stroke max and abilities stay with you even after you run out of strokes, keep at it!
Potential Spoiler Tips & Tricks
- If you are having trouble finding abilities, the first ability is in the Northwest corner; then work your way around the map counter-clockwise
- Wait to collect pieces of the Holy Tee until you have all 4 abilities
- Ghost Balls will give you extra strokes if you run out while fighting the final boss. Collect them all!
- The Terminal code FORE-EVER will give you infinite strokes BUT it also completely resets your progress if you lose all your strokes (yes you can still lose strokes), AND you can’t get gold or cherry while using it, so use it to explore freely, then start a new game when you’re ready to beat it
Terminal Codes
Here are the known Terminal codes for Golfaria (Spoiler)
Code | Effect | Notes | Where Found |
FORE-EVER | Unlimited Strokes | – You can still lose all your strokes due to certain enemies – If you run out of strokes, you lose all items and progress | |
Gold and Cherry Finishes

Cherry Disk Finish (Spoiler)

- Find and place the Holy Tee pieces (4) in the Tee Temple

User Eightywithout used a YouTube Cherry completion video posted by YouTuber Val1407 to create a very helpful list of locations and requirements for getting Cherry in Golfaria! You can find a link to the video and the list it on the UFO 50 Subreddit!
Map
- Fantasy
(No Spoilers) - Overworld
- Underworld
Please note that the maps (especially the underworld) contain spoilers for pretty much everything in the game. I personally found the exploration and discovery aspects of Golfaria to be a highlight, and I encourage players to find their own path. That being said, a map can really help get past some of the challenges of this game’s style of movement, so please enjoy when you’re ready!
Updates & Notes – 10/09/24
Updates
- 10/11/24 – Wrote a detailed walkthrough for beginners to collect the first 2 abilities; the second two abilities have simple steps but need more details; added better and more useful tips specifically for movement!
